Customer Opinion
Prof. Gilberte Furstenberg, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Foreign Languages and Literatures:
"Since the Fall of 2003, we have used the viaContext™ framework, especially its forums, for the Cultura project - a Web-based collaborative project that has connected since 1997 MIT students taking an intermediate French class with students taking an English class at a University in Paris."
"The great advantage of the viaContext™ forums is that students are now able to easily exchange images as well as texts. The exchange of visual icons and representations of their respective cultures, have allowed the conversations to take on yet another rich layer. By comparing images of an American suburb with a French one, for instance, students are able to immediately capture the diverging socio-economic reality behind those two seemingly apparent words."
"The very fact that students themselves contribute those images by uploading them onto the viaContext™ site brings them to yet another level of involvement, as they cross-question each other about the context in which these images were taken as well as their purpose."
Andrea Kulas, REWERSE Research Network of Excellence:
Prof. Diana Henderson, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Literature (Shakespeare RSC Archive Project):
"Having used the viaContext™ platform in my Shakespeare class this semester for the first time, I am excited by the possibilities for further development of its archival and teaching potential. We have been using photographs of various Hamlet productions made available through our special working relationship with the Royal Shakespeare Company, an archive which allows students to see changes in theatrical style and interpretation over time. They upload particular images into a discussion forum, using the photographs to illustrate their own interpretations of certain characters and moments."
"In other words, they are working not only on visual literacy and reading theatre historical documents, but also are linking those documents to their own reading of the text."
